Jabong Salty Dog

It's Monday and we can all use a cocktail (or two).

When life gives you lemons...

Or rather when the neighbor down the street's Jabong tree drops fruit all over the place....

I whipped up these simple cocktails tonight. Daniel wasn't a fan, but to me they just taste like winter. It was a good fit for a blustery 60 degree day in Hawaii.

First off, I know what you're thinking: what the hell is a Jobong?? Well, Its a citrus fruit, like a grapefruit, but HUGE. They're also a little less sweet, lighter fleshed, and thicker skinned. Some people also call them Pomelos. I believe the Latin name is Citrus grandis.

Recipe (makes 2)
2 oz vodka
2 TBS simple syrup
1-1/2 C Jabong juice (about 3-4 softball sized fruits)
2 Cups crushed ice

Hawaiian salt and Jabong slice for garnish

dip rim of glass in water then sea salt
fill glasses with crushed ice
Mix vodka, syrup and juice
Pour over ice
Garnish and enjoy!

I promise to cook up some more random yard fruit cocktails in the coming months, so stay tuned!
