Hurricane Douglas Prep

If all of 2020 were a week, it would have been this week. HAHA. On top of covid, it looks like there's a decent size hurricane headed our way...so that's cool. After almost 10 years of Hawaii life, we're not too bothered by it, BUT the whole front of our single wall, 1971 house is glass, and 2/3 of our house is a POS and all of our house is lightly nailed together and placed on top (mind you- not connected to anything, just lightly placed on top) of some tofu blocks.

Being from the midwest, this makes me nervous. I think for the first time, Daniel might legitimately install some hurricane clips, but even then, or roof is just nailed to beams, which may or may not even be nailed to our walls...probably not ideal for 115mph winds.

I took a vacation day today, but ended up calling into 2 meetings and spending ALL the rest of my time cleaning up the yard, bringing things inside, and doing laundry/cleaning the house in case the power goes out. Lucy I had the vacation to take because it was a busy day!

The kids don't mind at all, they're just excited for their "hurricane party" which mean they get to watch TV and eat snacks until the power goes out, then play games/ read books/ do puzzles by lantern light. We always try to make it a fun family bonding time.

This was my new favorite spot to sit, but it all had to come inside today.

We still have lots to do tomorrow too! Luckily we basically always have 2 weeks of food and stuff around the house. AND Olivia is potty trained enough that we could go without diapers if necessary (we don't yet) but we could if we ran out, so that's one less thing to prepare.
