We are now officially an AstroTurf free family!!!

This labor day weekend, we put in some real labor and tore the carpet off of our Lanai. The good news is we are now AstroTurf free. The bad news is, the lanai is looking a lot worse before it gets better...Stay tuned for the completed pics (sometime in 2016, haha)

Our August Landscaping Project

A couple of Fridays ago I got tired of our 70's first impression that our front yard was making and decided it was time to add some color.

I went to Mahana, and all they really had was vinca, and a bunch of trees, tropicals and bushes, so we ended up with this for now:

African Lily, Heleconia, Balsam, Vinca, Purple Thing

I don't love it, but at least that dang african lily is under control now. I read that they're invasive, so I thought about getting rid of it all together...and it's yellow :( I wish it was a pretty purple one. Those heleconia were volunteers, and the balsam and purple thing were poached from the backyard where we have an abundance of both.

Malted Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Samwiches

There's been a Pin on my Pinterest that I've really been wanting to try, and I finally found the time  in that glorious 2 weeks I had off between my summer and fall classes.

Here's the pin Malted Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwiches

I made the cookies as suggested, but I didn't have a silicone mat, so after burning the bcak of 2 trays I went on Amazon an bought these ones: Amazon Basics Silicone Baking Mats (haha. nice pidgen, huh)

Well, after I placed my order, I realized that Daniel had made breakfast burritos and forgot to turn the back burner off, so no, there was nothing wrong with making these on a normal cookie sheet, but I will say that now that I have the mats, they're awesome!!!

Malted Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwiches

It was hard to get a good picture because it's been a BIZILLION DEGREES around here lately, so they melted really fast.

They were really good, but i did change the recipe a little, since we had no vanilla Ice Cream at our store, I used swirl, and I mixed Ovaltine into it before using it to make the sandwiches, that in my opinion made them GREAT. the malt cookies were just ok.., I could have one without, and opening a whole can of condensed milk for just a couple of tablespoons is crazy to me.

if I make these again, which i most definitely will, I'm going to make the plain cookie recipe from the Kitchen Aid book, and use the malt flavored ice cream again.

Try them out and let me know what you think!

Bayou Pasta with Peppers from our Garden!!

We have an abundance of purple bell peppers in our garden right now, so the other day I made a version of our old favorite from Flatbranch in Columbia, Bayou Pasta.

Saute some onions and garlic in a little olive oil

Add homegrown peppers

These are already getting wrinkly, there are too many for us to keep up with.

I added some Costco Motzerella Sausage

Then the sauce is just a can of tomato sauce, and some heavy cream and salt and pepper. Parmesan if you like...

Mmmmm

Mikey liked it.

And so did these two.

We had a gorgeous sunset!

Seriously

So pretty!!!
